IPL Photo Facial in Lone Tree, CO
Sun damage, aging, and genetics can all contribute to facial redness, brown spots, uneven texture, and enlarged pores. An IPL Photofacial is a safe, non-invasive light therapy treatment that combats these concerns and restores a smooth, even, youthful complexion. At Colorado Ophthalmology and CosMEDics, we offer IPL Photofacials for patients in Lone Tree, Littleton, Aurora and surrounding areas of Denver, Colorado.
What is an IPL Photofacial?
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. This technology uses filtered broadband light to target and eliminate damaged skin cells and stimulate new collagen. These treatments can improve overall skin tone, texture, and color for a clearer, smoother, more youthful complexion. The IPL handpiece delivers rapid, gentle pulses of light to the skin's surface. This light energy converts to heat energy, which destroys damaged skin cells to improve:
- Brown spots and pigmentation
- Facial redness and flushing
- Sun damage and enlarged pores
- Fine lines and textural irregularities
Additionally, the IPL photofacial stimulates collagen production, which can improve skin elasticity and volume to further rejuvenate the appearance.
What Areas Can be Treated with an IPL Photofacial?
IPL photofacials are safe for all areas of the face, neck, décolletage and hands. The treatment is gentle enough for delicate skin areas around the eyes, mouth and forehead. It can also be used on other body areas like the chest, arms, legs and back.
What is the IPL Photofacial Treatment Like?
During an IPL photofacial, you'll relax comfortably while the handpiece glides over your skin delivering gentle pulses of light. No gels or anesthesia are required. As the light pulses are delivered, you will feel a brief warm sensation on the skin's surface. The technician will apply contact cooling throughout the procedure to ensure your comfort. A full face IPL Photofacial takes about 30 minutes.
Is There Any Downtime After an IPL Photofacial?
There is no downtime required after an IPL photofacial treatment. Some patients experience temporary redness or flushed skin that usually subsides within a few hours. In rare cases, mild swelling or bruising may occur. You can resume normal activities and apply makeup immediately after your treatment.
What Results Can I Expect from IPL Photofacial Treatments?
Some results are noticeable after the very first session. However, optimal improvements are seen after completing the recommended series of 3-5 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart. Gradual fading of brown spots, reduction of redness, smaller pores, and smoother texture will be seen over the course of the treatments and in the weeks following. Maintenance treatments can help prolong and improve these benefits when performed 1-2 times per year.
Am I A Good Candidate for the IPL Photofacial?
IPL photofacials are suitable for most skin types and tones. The best candidates have signs of sun damage, facial redness, age spots, enlarged pores or textural irregularities they wish to correct. The best way to determine your candidacy for an IPL photofacial is to schedule a consultation with our team at Colorado Ophthalmology and CosMEDics. During your consultation, we will assess your concerns and determine if IPL Photofacial can help you achieve your aesthetic goals. IPL is not recommended for patients with very dark skin tones, active infections, open wounds or certain medical conditions.

How is an IPL® Photo Facial Performed?
An IPL® Photo Facial takes about 30 to 60 minutes. The intense pulsed light is administered in small sections. We can either treat your entire face or just problem areas. You will feel some sensations during the treatment that are similar to pinching a small part of your skin. You will also experience a mild warming sensation that indicates the treatment is working. Most patients tolerate the treatment well, but we can use topical numbing agents if you feel uncomfortable.
IPL® Photo Facial Recovery
After your IPL° Photo Facial, your skin will be mildly red and swollen, and it is also more sensitive to sunlight. It feels and looks as though you have a slight sunburn. You can gently apply a cold compress to alleviate any discomfort. As part of your aftercare, avoid using certain products that may irritate your skin, such as fragrant lotions, facial scrubs, and exfoliating products. Any age spots and freckles that were treated will darken slightly in the coming days, and then flake off after seven to 21 days.
How Much Does an IPL® Photo Facial Cost?
The cost of an IPL® Photo Facial varies based on several factors. We discuss the price as part of your consultation. At Colorado Ophthalmology and CosMEDics, we strive to keep our pricing affordable, and we also offer financing options for our services.
